The Marine Drive Culvert Repair and Channel Remediation project completed by Pacific Casa Construction focused on stabilizing the creek channel and restoring the surrounding habitat.
Pacific Casa Construction installed Class 50 kg rip rap armoring along the creek channel to prevent erosion and stabilize the creek bed. Gabion baskets were placed along the creek banks, acting as retaining structures to reinforce the banks and reduce soil erosion during high-water events. These measures helped maintain the integrity of the creek and ensure its long-term stability.
To further improve water flow, Pacific Casa Construction excavated and removed two sections of 600 mm corrugated steel pipe (CSP), replacing them with concrete headwalls and concrete pipes. This replacement enhanced water conveyance and eliminated potential obstructions, ensuring efficient flow through the area.
Additionally, Pacific Casa Construction designed and installed a reinforced soil zone behind the gabion baskets, offering added support to the creek banks and preventing slumping or failure.
The final phase of the project included native vegetation planting and habitat restoration along the creek alignment. This initiative promoted biodiversity, supported local wildlife, and helped stabilize the surrounding ecosystem.
By combining erosion control, water flow management, and habitat restoration, Pacific Casa Construction successfully safeguarded the creek from future erosion while improving the overall health and sustainability of the environment.
